Federasi Panjat Tebing Indonesia (Indonesian Climbing Federation)


FPTIThe FPTI was established in April 21, 1988 in Jakarta by about 25 climbers which is coming from Bandung, Jakarta, Surabaya, and Yogyakarta to names some lead by Mr Harry Suliztiarto who introduced the activity in the very early of 80's in Bandung.

Union Internationale Alpinism Association (UIAA - International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation) was acknowledged FPTI to be it's full member in 1992. Two years later in 1994 Indonesian National Sport Committee was accepted full member status for FPTI. In the early 2007 with other 48 national climbing federation, FPTI formed International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) during a special meeting in Singapore.

With Malaysian and Singaporean counterparts, FPTI formed the Southeast Asia Climbing Federation (SEACF) in 1996. SEACF held some activities such as competitions, meetings, and climbers gathering. In 2010 SEACF has success to include the sport climbing to be a competed sport in the SEA Games 2011.

Nationally, FPTI is a member of Indonesian Olympic Committee and Indonesian National Sport Committee. FPTI has 32 provincial branches and hundreds regency chapters in Indonesia. About thousand climbers actively do climbing articifial wall or natural rock in Indonesia.

Sport climbing already compete in national olympic games (PON) since 2000 in East Java, in the last Games climbers compete for 21 gold medals.

In cooperation with government officials, FPTI has extended climbing activities to be a tourism interest, where FPTI has initiated to clean up some nice climbing cliffs in remote areas to be tourism destinations.
